71 correct predictions out of 137. Let's be honest: that's the kind of score that makes you question why you're watching Bavarian Oberliga at midnight. But there were moments of genuine brilliance today. And a few spectacular failures we'll document here — for the record, and for the lesson.

The Genius Calls

Let's start with the highlights. Qarabag 7-0 Karvan. Seven goals. In the Azerbaijani Premyer Liqa, yes. We said Qarabag win, and Qarabag responded like the ball was on fire. (Karvan seemed to have other plans for the evening.)

Bradford (Park Avenue) 8-0 Brighouse Town — eight goals, 1X prediction validated emphatically. We saw Bradford winning. We didn't see them treating it like a training session. There's a difference. Then AFC Dunstable 0-9 Leverstock Green: we backed Leverstock, and Leverstock delivered — just maybe with more enthusiasm than strictly necessary. Nine goals in English Non League is practically a movie.

In Serie A, Lecce 0-3 Atalanta: seen, predicted, confirmed. Atalanta did what Atalanta does — dismantled a team that wasn't ready for the day. Juventus 2-0 Genoa: clean, predictable, like a productive but dull business meeting. Club Brugge KV 4-2 Anderlecht — the Jupiler Pro League had character tonight. We were on the right side of it.

The Hard Lessons

IF Ready 6-1 Lokomotiv Oslo. We said 2. The result said 1, with six goals in the other column. (The difference between a wrong prediction and a disaster is usually five goals.) This is Lesson One from lower Nordic leagues: nobody really knows what's going to happen, least of all us.

Nieciecza 3-2 Piast Gliwice in the Polish Ekstraklasa. We picked Piast. Nieciecza scored three goals. It's the kind of match that makes you question your entire analytical process at 11:30 PM on a Monday.

Casa Pia 1-1 Benfica: we expected Benfica. Benfica did what Benfica does this season — unpredictable, occasionally disappointing, always capable of surprising you in the wrong direction. And Molde 0-1 Lillestrom in the Eliteserien: Molde at home, logical favourite, illogical result. Norwegian football does what it wants.

The harshest stat of the day: on matches where we predicted a simple home win (straight 1, no safety net), the failure rate hovered around 45%. Nearly one in two. Home teams collectively decided that Monday was their day off.

The Takeaway

Here's today's genuinely surprising observation: the matches with the most extreme scorelines — Bradford 8-0, Dunstable 0-9, Ready 6-1 — were almost all correctly oriented in our favour, except Ready. That's not coincidence. Large talent gaps are readable. It's the middle ground — the tight Bavarian and Austrian regional league matches — that destroyed us. At least 22 draws (many 0-0) that we almost never anticipated correctly.

The real lesson from this Monday: leagues with a strong draw culture (German and Austrian regional divisions) deserve different treatment. Systematically predicting home wins in these championships means playing against the house. And in these leagues, the house prefers splitting the point.
